CNN —Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, the UK Press Association (PA) reported Sunday citing a spokesperson for Ferguson. The disease was discovered after several moles were removed when she was treated for breast cancer in June, PA said. “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma,” a spokesperson for Ferguson said. “Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing” for the Duchess, the spokesperson added. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that develops in the cells that give skin its color, or melanin.

Rightfully so — I have an American accent, I'm fluent in English and Japanese, and I look racially ambiguous. My mom is American, and my dad is JapaneseI was born and raised in Tokyo to an American mom and a Japanese dad. I went to a Japanese school my entire education up until university. My mom speaks relatively fluent Japanese now, but growing up I felt a need to take care of her in terms of translation. A selection of her work in this vein is currently on display in the exhibition “Harmonia Rosales: Master Narrative” at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta. At the core of Rosales’ art is the idea that “storytelling is a journey of personal discovery and a reclamation of one’s cultural identity." Elon Schoenholz/Harmonia RosalesAcross 20 oil paintings and a large-scale sculptural installation, Rosales’ work challenges viewers to consider the universality of creation through a Black diasporic lens. Rosales' work demonstrates her journey towards empowerment and self-love, with figures in her artworks painted with features she used to dislike about herself. Glossier, a direct-to-consumer cosmetics company launched in 2014 by US businesswoman Emily Weiss, pioneered this new aesthetic. At Glossier, beauty marks were celebrated, freckles were lionized and makeup application became as free form as finger painting. Beyoncé, Serena Williams, Michelle Obama and Reese Witherspoon have all been pictured wearing the makeup brand to red carpet events like the Oscars and The Grammys. For Meltzer, the brand fell victim to something that often trips up companies leading the zeitgeist: an evolving landscape. But “Glossy” isn’t just a beauty brand biography — it’s a forensic cross-examination of an era-defining company and how it embodied a moment in wider culture.

But in recent years, DNA analysis has helped scientists uncover the tale behind the "vampire's" remains. An annotated image shows the placement of the "Connecticut vampire" skull and bones in the grave. The "Connecticut vampire" likely died of tuberculosisFor decades, the "Connecticut vampire" was known only as "JB55," after the initial "JB" that had been carved into the brass tacks used to close the coffin. A 3D-scan of Barber's skull was combined with DNA analysis to estimate John Barber's features, shown here in an artist's illustration. Not everybody agrees, however, that this burial site qualifies as a bona fide "vampire" burial site.

Dr. Susannah Hills John AbbottTo my surprise, I was diagnosed with skin cancer on my scalp. Basal cell cancer. Still, it seemed so strange to me that my skin cancer showed up on my scalp, underneath a covering of hair. An exam should be done every year to monitor unusual skin changes, or if you are at higher risk for developing skin cancer. I learned the hard way that anyone can get skin cancer and it can show up where you least expect.

Kundera’s humor had a deeper purpose. I could always recognize a person who was not a Stalinist, a person whom I needn’t fear, by the way he smiled. Kundera’s novels often felt essayistic; they were about whatever was on his mind: nostalgia, the absurdity of absolutes, music. Kundera saw sex as an act of redemption and of liberation under repressive regimes, but his obsession came back to haunt him. Geoff Dyer compared Kundera’s novels to the slapstick burlesque of “The Benny Hill Show,” with “the nurse in her bra and panties getting chased around by these horny doctors.”
